Post is water a problem?
Hi,

I have been reading your journals with great interest.

I an month time im going to walk the west highland way and the great glen way consecutively together with my girlfriend.
We are going to wildcamp all the way hopefully.

And i was wondering if its easy to get tapwater along the way, because i would hate to carry 20 liters in my backpack.

Are there enough shop, or do we have to carry all our food from day one?.

Did you buy along the way or did you drink from the lochs?.

Kind Regards,

Henrik Bendz

Hi there

Getting tap water on the way can be a problem if you are wild camping - many of the places you pass that have tap water get so many requests that they will now only sell you bottled water! We used Chlorine tablets to steralise the water from the many streams that cross the Way and managed fine. Don't drink from Loch Lochy on the Great Glen Way as a poisonous type of algae grows there. You should be fine as long as you fill up your water bottles from fast flowing streams.
There are shops on both routes though you may have to carry up to three days food at some point. Two long stretches without shops are between Tyndrum and Kinlochleven, and between Fort William and Fort Augustus.

Hope this is helpful
